A thigh lift involves reshaping the patient's thighs by removing extra fat and skin. The result is skin that is smoother, and thighs and a lower body with better proportionate contours.
Thigh lift surgery is ideal for healthy patients whose weight is relatively stable. Ideal patients are those who set realistic goals for what the surgery can accomplish and are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle that focuses on proper nutrition and physical activity.
What happens during a thigh lift procedure?
Patient comfort is prioritized, so medicine is administered during the thigh lift procedure. Dr. Collis will decide which option is best, either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation.
The pattern of the incision will differ depending on the area that needs treatment, the level of correction and the preference of the surgeon and patient.
An inner thigh incision is a common technique. It involves placing incisions in the patient's groin area that extend downward and wrap around to the backside of the patient's thigh. An alternative technique removes extra skin from the groin area extending to the knees, making the incision the length of the patient's inseam. Some patients are candidates for a minimal incision thigh lift. This procedure involves making an incision in the patient's groin area only.
An outer thigh incision may also be an option to improve a patient's outer thigh contours. This incision extends from the groin to the hip, then crosses the back.
The sutures in the underlying tissues of the body help to support the reshaped contours of the thigh area. Skin incisions may be secured with clips, sutures or skin adhesive tape.
What happens during thigh lift recovery?
The results of a thigh lift surgery are apparent almost instantly. Initially, the patient will experience bruising and swelling. As the bruising heals and the swelling goes down, the patient will see the smoother and tighter contouring of the thigh area. Small tubes may be placed under the skin to drain blood and fluid temporarily. Surgical incisions must remain stable during recovery and not be subjected to swelling, motion or excessive force.
